Hardliners Say Lady Gaga 'Too Pornographic' for Indonesia

The backlash against the flamboyant American pop star Lady Gaga has been brewing in Indonesia for months. However, tensions over the singer's imminent concert reached a new high in Jakarta this week. After mounting pressure from hardline Islamic groups, police announced they will not issue the permit required for Lady Gaga to perform in the country. Rights groups say the decision is a step back for the world's most populous Muslim nation.

Hardliners Say Lady Gaga 'Too Pornographic' for Indonesia

In announcing their decision, Indonesian police also cited concerns over safety. The Islamic Defender's Front, FPI, threatened to deploy 30,000 members to physically prevent Lady Gaga from getting off the plane. Although the majority of Indonesia's population is decidedly moderate, the FPI has been particularly vocal and politically influential over the past year.

Salim Alatas who heads FPI's Jakarta branch, thanked police for their efforts. "We from the FPI reject the Lady Gaga concert because she will destroy the morals and culture of Indonesia," he said. Alatas said Lady Gaga represents Satanism adding that the group would not reject her if she was not "pornographic. "This week the Indonesian government warned music promoters to consider the country's culture and tradition when inviting foreign artists to perform here. The tourism ministry also emphasized that foreign performers should wear modest outfits on stage.

But many of Jakarta's Western-minded young people believe hardline groups should not have the right to define their morals for them. Giat, 18, is a Jakarta student who runs a Twitter page called Lady.Gaga. Indonesia. The page has 22,000 followers -- " Little Monsters" as Lady Gaga fans are known -- many of whom have criticized the decision.

"Those arguments from those people who don't like Lady Gaga aren't rational to me, actually not only to me but to all little monsters in Indonesia," Giat said. "As we know Lady Gaga never asked anyone to worship Satan so it's like they are trying to lie to the public because not everyone knows Lady Gaga, so everyone will hate Lady Gaga and the concert will be canceled. It is so ridiculous to me and all little monsters."

Despite allegations that the pop star would tarnish Indonesia's moral fiber, she has plenty of fans in Jakarta. More than 52,000 tickets were purchased in advance, making the sold-out show her biggest in Asia.

Lady Gaga's local promoter, Big Daddy Productions, says it is still trying to persuade authorities to issue the permit, but rights groups say the damage to Indonesia's tolerant Islamic image is done. Human Rights Watch Asia deputy director Elaine Pearson says hardline groups like the FPI are becoming increasingly aggressive.

"It used to be that they would only go after the minorities like the Ahmadiyah but increasingly over the last couple of years we have seen more attacks against Christian churches and so on," Pearson said. "I think now the fact they are even taking on the Lady Gaga concert shows that there are very emboldened by the failure if the state to really rein in their activities. They really want to control what people can do and see in Indonesia."

Lady Gaga's "Born this Way Ball" world tour includes stops in Bangkok, Manila, Tapei, Hong Kong and Korea. And there have been culture clashes in those places too. Conservative groups in South Korea complained about Lady Gaga's skimpy costumes, leading authorities to ban minors from attending her recent show. Several of the pop singer's tunes are banned in China.

Lady Gaga Wears Another Meat Dress

Posted in : Gossips

(added 1 days ago)

There’s the beef: the unforgettable meat dress Lady Gaga wore at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards has made a comeback — kind of. The superstar recently wore another raw design, this time at her Born This Way Ball concert in Tokyo.

Lady Gaga Wears Another Meat Dress

On Monday, Gaga Tweeted a photo of herself (shot by famed photographer Terry Richardson) performing her song “Americano” while wearing the meat dress (and shoes) 2.0 surrounded by what appeared to be fake animal carcasses. The getup, more modest than the first, featured a sweetheart neckline and bubble skirt.

The singer’s first jaw-dropping meat look was made out of real slabs of beef and designed by Franc Fernandez. And though Gaga didn’t confirm or deny this new look was made out of actual raw meat, we suspect — and hope — it wasn’t since she wore it while performing.

Gaga has turned her overseas visit into a quite a fashion show; along with the meat dress, she’s also donned multiple over-the-top Atelier Versace airport getups.

Lady Gaga may have to cancel Indonesia concert Share

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Lady Gaga might have to cancel her sold-out show in Indonesia because Islamic hard-liners and conservative lawmakers objected. National police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said the permit was denied for the June 3 "Born This Way" concert that was to be the biggest show on her Asian tour.

Lady Gaga may have to cancel Indonesia concert Share

Concert promoter Michael Rusli had already sold 52,000 tickets. He could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday. Indonesia's Muslims are mostly moderate but a hardline fringe has become increasingly vocal. Some Islamic groups have protested the diva's provocative clothing and said her sexy show will corrupt Indonesian youths. Her concerts in South Korea were limited to fans 18 or older because conservatives raised objections.

Lady Gaga Shows Off 'Engagement Ring,' But Isn't Headed Down the Aisle

Posted in : Gossips

(added 3 days ago)

Lady Gaga reportedly broke up with her boyfriend, actor Taylor Kinney, last week, so it was a bit surprising to find Mother Monster engagement news floating around the interwebs this morning.

Lady Gaga Shows Off 'Engagement Ring,' But Isn't Headed Down the Aisle

While TMZ has since debunked the rumors -- no, she's not going to be a missus anytime soon -- there's actually a logical explanation for the confusion. Famed photographer Terry Richardson (the guy responsible for Kate Upton's Cat Daddy video) posted a photo of Gaga on his website Sunday, showing her pointing at a giant ring on her left hand. The caption read: "Gaga showing off her new engagement ring!" The logical thing to do was assume the news was true.

Well, that would be logical if it involved pretty much anyone other than Lady Gaga. The eccentric star -- and photographer, for that matter -- are known for their wacky humor and the ability to get fans all riled up. They're quite good at it. We're guessing the engagement caption was a big joke to Richardson, who probably gave low odds to anyone catching on.

Lady Gaga, a muse for Indian designers?

Posted in : Gossips

(added 5 days ago)

Lady Gaga turns into the perfect muse for Indian designers On Wednesday, Lady Gaga instantly put Indian designers in the international spotlight.

Lady Gaga, a muse for Indian designers?

Fashion bloggers and online mags raved about her all-white, elegant yet typically Gaga-ish out-of-the-box look. The songstress picked a stretch twill pencil dress with moulded leather panels on the top and a moulded and structured leather fish-tail silhouette at the bottom. Designed by New Delhi-based duo Alpana and Neeraj, the dress, in keeping with its 'underwater' theme, had delicate clear crystal and diamond detailing on the shoulders.

And, the Born This Way singer gave it an outlandish twist with the Little Shilpa white Perspex headgear. The look was completed with gloves and tall platforms.

This is just one example of Indian designers being noticed in the international market. Other examples are Manish Arora, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Tarun Tahiliani, Sabyasachi Mukherjee to name a few. In the last couple of months, Alpana and Neeraj have enjoyed red carpet attention. Actress Kat Graham donned their futuristic gown, singer Shingai Shoniwa their surgical mask gown and Brandy their wooden dress. As for Shilpa Chavan (Little Shilpa), Lady Gaga has worn her eccentric hats four-five times and even Kat Graham was seen on an album cover in one of her pieces. "I didn't even know that Lady Gaga wore my design at Hong Kong. I got a congratulatory mail from a website dedicated to Gaga," says Shilpa. "She's the ultimate muse for a milliner because she does justice to creativity," she adds. Gaga tweaked the hat and wore it differently. While the white discs are meant to fall in front of the face, Gaga chose to wear one in the front and one at the back of her head.

"She adds her own personality to the design which is why I think of her when I think of 'out-of-the-box'," Shilpa says.

The whole fashion industry has grown by leaps and bounds. Borders are being crossed with more ease. "The whole vision of fashion today has changed. A designer's ideas may be creative but they should stand on their own; they shouldn't look shoddy," Alpana Mittal, one half of Alpana and Neeraj, points out. She also echoes Shilpa's thoughts and terms Lady Gaga as a dream. It was the singer's stylist who contacted the duo about the dress.

"She's a dream for designers who take on risks and don't play it safe. She added her own touch to it with the shoes and the hat. Her look wasn't eccentric; it was elegant yet fashion forward," she says. True that.

A look at some of the Indian designers who boast of international celebrity clients

Falguni & Shane Peacock: Singer Ashanti wore their creation this year. They have previously worked with Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Fergie to name a few.

Tarun Tahiliani: Designed a sari for Oprah Winfrey. Lady Gaga wore a sari-inspired gown designed by him during her India visit.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee: Renee Zellweger and Reese Witherspoon have worn his label.

Manish Arora: Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Katy Perry wear his designs.

Farah Khan Ali: Beyonce wore a crown by this jewellery designer in 2011.

Lady Gaga plays "a bit of a slut" in The Simpsons (Watch Video)

(added 7 days ago)

Lady Gaga admits she plays "a bit of a slut" while voicing an animated version of herself in The Simpsons. The Marry The Night hitmaker is due to star in forthcoming episode Lisa Goes Gaga - which will be aired on May 20 on Fox in the US - of the popular cartoon comedy series, which will see her change into 18 outfits during the show and even embrace Marge Simpson.

She said: "I play a bit of a slut. The apple doesn't fall far from my artistic tree."Among her costume changes in the episode, Gaga - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta - wears her infamous meat dress made of raw beef which she donned in real life at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The episode sees Gaga arrive in the Simpsons' hometown of Springfield aboard the Gaga Express train, and the Born This Way hitmaker sets about trying to boost Lisa Simpson's spirits after the character becomes a social outcast.

The 26-year-old singer has previously described starring in an episode of The Simpsons
She said: "I make music, but I don't do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humuor. "That's what I was trying to focus on, not putting on a character too much and really being as sincere as I could with the lines. I would say this is one of the coolest things I've ever done. My dad's probably going to do 80 backflips when the episode comes out."

Lady Gaga Has An Amazing Rainbow Ponytail Waterfall (Or Something)

Posted in : Gossips

(added 8 days ago)

We were recently worried about Lady Gaga 'cause she looked kinda sad in a basic black dress while in Hong Kong. (Basic if you're Gaga.) We even thought she was mourning her recent break-up with boyfriend Taylor Kinney. So thank your lucky little Monster Pit key that Mother Monster is back to "normal" (for her). And HOLY ISH, Gaga brought the "Gaga" out in full force with some WILD rainbow hair. Anyone else suddenly craving Fruit Stripe gum? Or My Little Ponys? Also, even though this is kinda a dominatrix vibe, I feel like Gaga should also be carrying a business lady briefcase. Just me? It's not just me, right?

Lady Gaga Has An Amazing Rainbow Ponytail Waterfall (Or Something)

As Gagaloo continues on her Born This Way Ball in Tokyo, she unveiled her very colorful new hair and paired it with a studded leather dress. Because we make it our job to find the hidden meaning in ATG (all things Gaga), we can't help but try to figure out what the hell is going on here. Maybe it's a follicular reference to her sick pink ponytail in her "Born This Way" video. Maybe she's taking her upcoming "Simpsons" cameo super seriouslyand going cartoon IRL? There's definitely a "Rainbow-Brite-dating-Marilyn-Manson" feel going on. Whatever it means, we simply COULD NOT be more excited to see more cray-cray Gaga outfits. See? WE'RE EVEN USING SHOUTY CAPITALS! PLEASE, GAGA! MORE OF THIS, PLEASE, MOTHER MONSTER!

Lady Gaga: Hello Tokyo!

Posted in : Gossips

(added 9 days ago)

Gearing up for the Japanese leg of her Born This Way Ball Tour, Lady Gaga was spotted arriving in Tokyo. The “Bad Romance” songstress showed up at Narita International Airport to see hundreds of crazy Little Monsters who had been waiting for hours just to catch a glimpse of her.

Lady Gaga: Hello Tokyo!

And of course, Gaga had a nutty getup, including a black spiked leather dress teamed with a pair of super-high heels and black sunglasses. Lady Gaga is highly-respected in Japan thanks to her efforts to help out after the massive tsunami and earthquake disasters. In fact, a Gaga teacup was auctioned off for $75,000 to help rebuilding efforts.
