On Lady Gaga, Karl Rove, Buzzfeed, and Fracking

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

On Lady Gaga, Karl Rove, Buzzfeed, and FrackingEstablishment Republicans are in the midst of what can only be described as an intellectual meltdown. They must be. Whether it’s the revelation that American Action Network attempted to get the ever-controversial, exceptionally talented Lady Gaga to perform for $1 million at the Republican National Convention — an institution, to put it mildly, she shares almost nothing in common with.

Or Karl Rove’s American Crossroads push to defeat, not Democrats, but tea party candidates, the same movement that had helped the GOP to reclaim a majority in the House of Representatives in 2010. To now the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) hailing as a model for future Republican messaging Buzzfeed, a website that drives traffic with pictures of talking cats, celebrity gossip, sexual innuendo, and sci-fi. It’s hard not to ask what the heck is going on.

“BuzzFeed’s eating everyone’s lunch,” National Journal reports NRCC spokesman Gerrit Lansing as saying. “They’re making people want to read and be cognizant of politics in a different way.”Yeah, by interspersing political stories amid pure trivial nonsense with headlines like “Floating Poop In Space — A Confidential Discussion,” “Which Kind Of Gamers Are The Best Lovers?” “The 28 Most Ironic Things That Have Ever Happened,” and “This Guy Is Obsessed With Becoming A Mermaid.”Perhaps I am simply being obtuse. I’m certain the NRCC might respond that it was merely looking at Buzzfeed’s web layout as something to emulate to generate more clicks, something indicated in the National Journal story.

But Lansing went further than that, saying a site like Buzzfeed — which can only be defined as appealing to the lowest common denominator — was in fact some new way to talk about politics. Who knew floating poop in the void of space could be such an effective tool? Here, the NRCC is acknowledging something that Barack Obama already knows and took full advantage of in 2008, which is that politics in America is dead.

Let’s face it. When a candidate’s appeal as a pop culture icon trumps any examination whatsoever of the issues facing the nation, when people are more driven by who’s advancing in Dancing with the Stars than what’s going on in their local community, then perhaps our society really has devolved into a lemming-like mob of sycophants.

Of course this phenomenon is nothing new. Richard Nixon on Laugh-In, or Bill Clinton’s saxophone performance on Arsenio Hall are still talked about as defining moments of politics intersecting with pop culture. However, when political party organs attempt to merge themselves into pop culture, the question becomes not how candidates might make themselves appear more personable to voters with whom they are attempting to connect, but whether now the pop culture tail is wagging the policy dog.

It is reasonable then to ask if the NRCC’s Buzzfeed communication plan will begin to drive House Republican policy decisions in a vain attempt to attract supporters that care more about Adele, zombies, and Doctor Who. Which, while all highly entertaining content, has almost nothing to do with implementing a political program.

So perhaps a better question is how Republicans might better spend their time, instead of figuring out how to win over celebrities, foil the tea party, or obsessing over massive, if not pointless, web traffic.
“Instead of wasting their time surfing the web, Republicans might consider pounding the pavement in towns like Youngstown, Ohio, a depressed community that finally has hope that things will get better, thanks to fracking,” Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson suggests.

Hydraulic fracturing is the technique that is converting energy-rich shale formations into gushers of natural gas and petroleum. Sadly, fracking is under assault in a relentless campaign by environmentalist radicals who want to convince the American people this energy revolution will cause earthquakes, poison the water, and set their sinks on fire.

In Youngstown, there is no guarantee the industry will survive this assault. Already the ever-cringing administration of Republican Governor John Kasich in Ohio is pushing through new fracking wastewater regulations in response to claims that the injections beneath the earth’s surface were responsible for earthquakes near Youngstown.

“Ever since steel and automobiles left Youngstown, it has been dying. But for the first time in a long while the people there can see a way back, they can see how they can return to the pleasant middle class community it once was — but only if the radical greens are stopped,” Wilson noted.

He pointed separately to German chemical giant BASF moving to Louisiana to take advantage of cheap natural gas, saying, “This is the rebirth of hope that we can produce things here in America.”All evidence that manufacturing — and jobs — will come back to America in a big way because of cheap energy. “But fracking represents more than just jobs for Americans,” Wilson added. “Because it will bring back productive sectors to our economy, in the process it will build stable, clean, and prosperous communities — a place where you’d want to buy a house and raise a family, not based on speculation, but because there was a real future there.”

Meanwhile, Republicans are apparently more concerned about the trivialities of pop culture, making concessions on climate change, defeating the tea party, and rebranding itself as “hip” than really getting with it and vigorously defending our economy against these forces that seek to destroy it. Because, every community suffering through this recession is a Youngstown that could be rebuilt—  by lowering the cost of doing business in America, whether through cheap energy, less regulation, lower taxes, or a strong, stable dollar. We will not long remain the world’s preeminent economic superpower if all we produce are mouse clicks.

Instead of worrying about what people are posting on Facebook, perhaps Republicans need to get back to grassroots activism, you know, like that “crazy” tea party did back in 2009 and 2010 when it won back the House. It’s time to start talking to the people — in their communities. For, if all that is left of America is Buzzfeed, then it indicates that not only is politics dead, but so are concepts such as individual sovereignty and independent thought — for they cannot coexist in the rampant groupthink that is on display in these places.

Lady GaGa 'Will Pay For Fan's Surgery'

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

Mother Monster aka Lady GaGa may be going 'ga ga' over her fans, as it is revealed that she will be paying for one fan to have hip replacement surgery. GaGa will pay for a 19-year-old fan called Emma, a Scoliosis and hip dysplasia sufferer from Wisconsin, to meet the same doctors and surgeons and have the very same medical treatment she underwent herself, according to the Metro.

Lady GaGa 'Will Pay For Fan's Surgery'

Emma wrote online: “GaGa reached out to me and is hooking me up with her team that did her surgery in NYC as I have been needing a hip replacement for quite some time.  “We’re planning on flying out this weekend, all expenses paid, for a consult. The gesture is absolutely incredible… I broke down sobbing. Words can’t describe how incredibly blessed I am.”

The Born This Way singer is only just back on her feet after emergency surgery for a “labral tear” to her right hip which caused her “chronic” pain - resulting in her cancelling one of her tours.  During her treatment GaGa used a Louis Vuitton wheelchair and another 24-carat gold-plated wheelchair made by luxury brand Mordekai.  She is said to have named this chair Emma and will apparently be handing this over to the real Emma.

Lady Gaga to pay for fan`s hip surgeryPop sensation Lady Gaga will pay for a disabled fan`s hip replacement surgery. The 27-year-old singer herself underwent an operation on February 20 to treat a hip injury which prompted her to cancel the remaining dates of her Born This Way Ball world tour, reported Daily Star.

A devotee named Emma, who suffers from scoliosis and hip dysplasia, reached out to the star to offer her support and Gaga was so touched that she named her wheelchair after her new friend. Now Gaga is sending Emma to see her surgeon and promised to cover the costs of her next operation.

"Gaga herself reached out to me and is hooking me up with her team of doctors, plus others, that did her surgery in NYC as I have been needing a hip replacement for quite some time (my left hip dislocated almost two weeks ago too..

"I know, perfect timing, right?... We`re planning on flying out this weekend, all expenses paid, for a consult. She won`t be there, but the gesture is absolutely incredible and I broke down sobbing immediately afterwards... Words can`t describe how incredibly blessed I am... I would like to send a massive thank you to Gaga, her entire team, as well as (Gaga`s parents) Cynthia and Joe for doing an incredible job of raising the most beautiful person I know," Emma posted on Twitter. Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

Lady Gaga, Hip Surgery: Singer Gives Fan 'Incredible' GiftLess than two months after undergoing hip surgery, Lady Gaga is paying it forward -- by paying for a fan to have the same operation! According to Entertainmentwise, the singer offered to fund the procedure for one of her Little Monsters, Emma, who suffers from scoliosis and hip dysplasia. Gaga was so touched when Emma initially reached out to offer her support to the star, that she named her gold-plated wheelchair after the fan!

Entertainmentwise reports that Emma took to Twitter to thank Mother Monster, saying, "Gaga herself reached out to me and is hooking me up with her team of doctors, plus others, that did her surgery in NYC as I have been needing a hip replacement for quite some time (my left hip dislocated almost two weeks ago too.. I know, perfect timing, right?)..."Although Gaga won't be present before Emma's procedure, the fan is still touched by the singer's generosity.

"We're planning on flying out this weekend, all expenses paid, for a consult," Emma continued. "She won't be there, but the gesture is absolutely incredible and I broke down sobbing immediately afterwards... Words can't describe how incredibly BLESSED I am... After undergoing her own hip operation, Lady Gaga wrote a touching letter to her fans, but it appears the gratitude is mutual. "I would like to send a MASSIVE thank you to Gaga, her entire team, as well as (Gaga's parents) Cynthia and Joe for doing an incredible job of raising the most beautiful person I know," Emma tweeted.

They are joined on the list for the 17th annual Webby battle by the likes of Tiger Woods, Alec Baldwin, Charlize Theron, Conan O'Brien and Jerry Seinfeld.

Justin Bieber, Lena Dunham, Tom Hanks and Lady GaGa Land Nods at 2013 Webby Awards

Continuing its tradition to honor excellence on the internet including websites, online video and social media, apps and interactive Internet advertising, this year's Webby places Bieber's "Girlfriend" fragrance launch in the running to becoming the best Interactive Advertising & Media in Social Media Campaign category against Obama's campaign and Nike Barbershop.

Dunham, meanwhile, picks up two nominations at the 2013 Webbys, one for Individual Performance in an Online Film & Video for her cheeky "First Time" ad supporting Obama along with Theron's Funny or Die's video, and the other for Social Content and Marketing category along with HBO Entertainment for comedy series "Girls", which she writes and stars in.

"Tom Hanks' Electric City" is up for Drama in Online Film & Video, while "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" which features Seinfeld, Baldwin, Ricky Gervais and Larry David scores three nods in Online Film & Video including the Long Form or Series category with Neil Patrick Harris' "Puppet Dreams" and O'Brien's "Clueless Gamer and Serious Jibber Jabber".

"GaGa's Workshop" created for New York store Barneys is listed in the Social category, and "Tiger Woods: My Swing, Tiger Woods Foundation" is among the nominees in Mobile & Apps. Other nominees included "The Walking Dead" (3 nods in online content and mobile or apps categories) and "The Hunger Games: Capitol Tour" (Website for Movie and Film category).

The winners will be honored at a ceremony in New York City, where they will deliver five-word speeches in the tradition of past victors like Al Gore ("Please don't recount this vote"), Jimmy Fallon ("Thank God Conan got promoted") and Anna Wintour ("Sometimes, Geeks Can Be Chic"). The show will be broadcast online on May 22.

"Every year we are constantly amazed by the innovations Webby Nominees push forward and this year is no exception," said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. "This year's nominees reflect a new personal and pervasive Internet where friends and people we trust are our curators and mobile devices stretch the network into the most discreet places in our lives. It is truly an Internet Made by everyone, accessed from anywhere."

Academy members like Arianna Huffington, Instagram founder Kevin Systrom and musician David Bowie will help determine the Webby victors, while public fans are invited to vote the winner of The Webby People's Voice Awards. Voting has started and will remain open until April 25. Last year, over 2 million votes were received, setting a Webby Awards record.

The Greatest Gatsby: Amitabh Bachchan with Beyonce, Lady Gaga…

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

The Great Gatsby will probably be the greatest release of the year and draw the attention of every Bollywood fan alive because it features the Greatest Bollywood star - Amitabh Bachchan. In fact, The Big B has been tweeting about the film and revealed on his Twitter account: “The Great Gatsby official opening film for Cannes Film festival, May 15th…come one come all…half blink and you miss role for me (sic).”

The Greatest Gatsby: Amitabh Bachchan with Beyonce, Lady Gaga…

Then, he adds: “Baz Luhrmann just informs me about Cannes... there is excitement all around... Jazz y wanting to use my voice in sound track… sure (sic).”Adding Amitabh Bachchan’s baritone to the soundtrack is a typical Baz Luhrmann move – not enough stars ’s can do for the director. Beyonce is on there, Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Rey and Jack White and now even Lady Gaga. So why not the Big B as well.

The Cannes Film Festival, whose 66th edition will unroll on May 15, has reportedly gone against tradition in choosing ‘The Great Gatsby’ as its opening movie. This is because the film will hit theatres on May 10 (US) and for the last 10 years Cannes has reserved the opening slot for a movie that has not been screened elsewhere. Bachchan plays Meyer Wolfsheim in film with  Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan in starring roles. The film is an adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel and also stars Tobey Maguire.

Lady Gaga turned down million-dollar offer to perform at the Republican National Convention

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

It would take more than $1-million to have Lady Gaga play the RNC. According to the Washington Examiner, Gaga turned down exactly that sum when she declined to play last summer's GOP convention. News of the snub was made public in a lawsuit filed by the Republican nonprofit fundraising organization American Action Network (AAN). AAN is suing Cater America, a vendor that was responsible for booking entertainment at the GOP's convention last summer, to recover funds lost after a cancelled concert last year by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Lady Gaga turned down million-dollar offer to perform at the Republican National Convention

The Washington Examiner reports that AAN director of development, Pete Meachum, sent emails to Rob Jennings, the head of Cater America, requesting that Gaga be enticed to perform with the promise of a $150,000 donation to a domestic violence shelter. Meachum also reportedly instructed Jennings to tell Gaga that the performance would be held at an event honouring women who run for public office.

Lady Gaga Turned Down $1 Million to Perform at GOP Convention

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

Lady Gaga Turned Down $1 Million to Perform at GOP ConventionAnyone thinking Lady Gaga would betray her liberal fan base to perform for the likes of Mitt Romney and other top-ranking Republicans can rest easy. In legal documents in connection with a lawsuit filed by the Republican fundraising organization in a U.S. District Court in Washington D.C., American Action Network, against an entertainment vendor reveals that the "Judas" singer was offered a whopping $1 million to perform at the GOP convention but turned them down cold. "See what it would take to get Gaga instead of Dolly [Parton]," Meachum wrote in an email to the head of Cater America, the event production company the group is now suing.

Meachum noted that conservatives were even willing to pony up an extra donation to a charity important to women's groups in hopes of persuading the "Judas" singer—who, ironically, is a strong supporter of President Barack Obama and hot-button issues like gay marriage that are anathema to conservatives.
"Also, tell them that $150,000 will go towards a domestic violence shelter," he added. Alas, Lady Gaga didn't bite. And neither did Parton nor Pitbull, who Republicans wanted to line up for a Hispanic Leadership Network event. Those artists who agreed to perform included Journey (which sources told E! News earned $500,000) and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the latter of whom prompted the suit.

AAN sued the vendor for the $350,000 it claimed it lost after the "Freebird" rockers canceled their concert due to Hurricane Isaac. As for why AAN would seek out Gaga, the group issued a statement saying the idea was never seriously considered, but didn't exactly deny they invited her. "In planning for our fundraiser in Tampa, e-mails we're exchanged between AAN fundraising staff and outside vendors exploring various performance options. AAN is an independent group and is no way affiliated with or connected to the [Republican National Committee] nor was the RNC ever privy to these internal discussions," the AAN said. "We considered some acts and didn't seriously consider others, but we were ultimately happy with a great Kid Rock concert. Our events were independent from the official convention and the RNC."The RNC also tried to distance itself from the story saying it "neither asked, offered, thought of or ever considered the idea of Lady Gaga performing at our convention."

Lady Gaga In 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' As Dazzler? Bryan Singer Tweets Casting Prank On April Fools' Day

Posted in : Gossips

(added a month ago!)

Is Lady Gaga playing Dazzler in "X-Men: Days of Future Past"? She's not, apparently, but that didn't stop Bryan Singer from having a little fun on Monday afternoon, a.k.a. April Fools' Day.

Lady Gaga In 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' As Dazzler? Bryan Singer Tweets Casting Prank On April Fools' Day

Singer, who is set to direct "X-Men: Days of Future Past," has previously used the social media platform to reveal casting news for his upcoming film. In an interview with HuffPost Entertainment earlier this year, the director explained his expanded Twitter presence.Except when it's not the confirmation, as in this case. Singer's joke wasn't without victims: Variety ran with the Lady Gaga news, posting that the pop singer was added to "a diverse and intriguing cast." The article was subsequently pulled down, and Variety acknowledged the gaffe:

It wasn't so hard to believe that Gaga would join "X-Men," of course; the singer has stretched her wings as an actress in recent months, filming a role in "Machete Kills" for director Robert Rodriguez. HuffPost Entertainment reached out to Singer's representatives to find out whether he was, in fact, joking; the director had no comment on the tweet. According to the website Bleeding Cool, Lady Gaga's representatives have denied she has any involvement in the film.
